2010 Heritage Power & Country Festival

This two day signature event and fundraiser held at the Cumberland Heritage Village Museum on May 29th and May 30th which offered unique, interactive and exciting programs and which was presented by the Cumberland Lions Club in partnership with the Museum and in collaboration with other community groups and non-profit organizations, including the Navan and Gloucester North Lions, was a tremendous success and was seen by numerous visitors of all ages and interests as being the show of the year in the east end of Ottawa. The weather was excellent and the attendance was substantially increased.
The special events and attractions arranged enabled many of the visitors to say “that indeed was the greatest Festival I have ever attended in the Cumberland area”. Another popular remark was “everything ran like clockwork”.
As I said at the Opening Ceremony, when you oversee the organization and delivery of this type of an event, there is always an element of good luck and good fortune. The good fortune of the HPCF Executive Committee came from the support and hard work of Lions members, community supporters, Museum Board, City staff within and outside the Museum, Councillor Jellett’s office and others, including my wife Charlotte, who all worked tirelessly and gave countless hours to develop and implement a plan for the delivery of this two day event. The financial and other contributions from Canadian Heritage, Cultural Funding and the Rural Association Partnership Program as well as the business community must also be acknowledged.
The reports received from the Organizer’s who hosted the field events, Exhibitors and the Entertainers were very favourable and they have stated that they are all anxious to return next year to help us make the show bigger and better than it was this year.
Thank you for all the support and participation.

Maplefest 2010 a great success!
A big thank you to the one thousand, five hundred and sixty people who attended our 41st annual Maplefest at Maple Hall in downtown Cumberland Village this past weekend. The $5200 profit will allow us to help many worthy causes in our area.
We have been told our pancakes are the best in the world. This has not been officially verified, but they are very, very good, due to our secret mixing and viscosity control (the 5 second rule) and our exact grilling technique which allows us to produce 27 pancakes every 3 minutes..
Our sausages are also the best in the area due to our superb cooking abilities.
Thank you to all the Lions members, wives, and friends who did an outstanding job mixing, cooking, and controlling viscosity, and to those who kept up with the demand for coffee and orange juice, maple syrup and who kept the tables clean and stick-free.
Your Maplefest chairman
Lion Mel Walker
